Who counts as an insurance intermediary?Advice & broker
Under Art. 40 of the Insurance Supervision Act (VAG; SR 961.01), insurance intermediaries are all persons who offer or conclude insurance contracts. This includes agents, brokers and neutral insurance advisers as well as the field staff of insurance companies.
What applies to all insurance intermediaries?Advice & broker
Every intermediary must fulfil the duty to inform as soon as they contact new clients (Art. 45 VAG). For an existing client portfolio there is no need to inform retroactively — it is sufficient to inform at the next personal contact or with the next quote.
Do all insurance intermediaries have to register?Advice & broker
No. Only insurance intermediaries who are not tied to an insurance company legally, economically or in any other way have to register (Art. 43 para. 1 VAG). VFR is entered in the FINMA register as an untied intermediary.
Is health insurance compulsory in Switzerland?Health insurer
Yes. Everyone resident in Switzerland must take out compulsory basic health insurance under the KVG, as a rule within three months of moving to Switzerland or of birth.
How do I get a premium reduction?Health insurer
Anyone who struggles to pay their premiums because of their income can apply to the canton for support. In some cantons entitlement is calculated automatically each year from the tax return; in others you have to contact the relevant office yourself. We will tell you what applies in your canton of residence.
What does your advice cost me?Advice & broker
For you as a client, our advice is free of charge. We are remunerated by the insurance companies through brokerage commissions. We disclose what we receive on request — you will find the remuneration information under Art. 45 VAG in the downloads.
Is personal liability insurance compulsory?Liability & everyday life
No, it is voluntary. Even so, it is one of the most important insurances there is: anyone who causes damage to someone — even unintentionally — is liable with their assets and, depending on the case, even with future earnings.
Do I need liability insurance for my dog?Liability & everyday life
This is regulated differently from canton to canton: in some cantons it is compulsory, in others not. It is advisable in any case, because you are liable for damage caused by your dog. With some providers, pets are already included in personal liability insurance.
Why should I take out insurance for a trip?Liability & everyday life
The unexpected can happen when you travel: a flight is cancelled, luggage goes missing, or there is an accident. Travel insurance covers the additional costs and helps with repatriation. Credit-card cover is often limited in amount — check carefully before departure what actually applies.
How much money will I need in retirement?Pension planning & family
AHV and the pension fund are the two mandatory pillars of retirement provision. Together they secure around 60 per cent of gross income. What you need beyond that depends on your plans — we calculate your pension gap with you.
Do you live in a cohabiting partnership?Pension planning & family
Then the law treats you differently from married couples. That has advantages, but also serious drawbacks — above all in pension planning. It pays to look at beneficiary clauses, inheritance law and survivors’ benefits early on.
Why take out life insurance for children?Pension planning & family
You set aside capital for the start of adult life, and your child is covered in the event of disability. Whether this beats a pure savings solution depends on your situation — we calculate both for you.
Which motor vehicle insurance makes sense?Liability & everyday life
That depends on the vehicle, how you use it and how much protection you need. Important: don’t look at the price alone, but at the benefits that genuinely protect you and your vehicle.
How do I report a claim?Claim
Report the claim via the form under Service & Support, by email to service@vfrmanagement.ch or by telephone. We record the case, report it to the insurer and see the settlement through to completion.
